Europe part four⛲️(mini blog)
Rome
Hotel📍Westin Excelsior Rome
Our last leg of the trip would be spent in the Lazio region and Italy’s capital, Rome. We flew from Barcelona, Spain to the Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino. From the airport, my mom and I were driven to our hotel in the heart of Rome. The drive became exceedingly scenic as we entered the city, passing numbers of stunning, hundreds-year-old buildings.
We were able to see the Colosseum, the people's plaza, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps, the Sistine Chapel, and the Castel Sant’Angelo. We stayed a few nights in Lazio, walking distance from the end point of one of Rome’s earliest aqueducts, Aqua Virgo, the incredible Trevi Fountain (lizzie mcguire moment!).
"The myth of the Trevi Fountain- The myth, originating in 1954 with the movie "Three Coins in the Fountain," goes like this:
If you throw one coin: you will return to Rome.
If you throw two coins: you will fall in love with an attractive Italian.
If you throw three coins: you will marry the person that you met.
In order to achieve the desired effect, you should throw the coin with your right hand over your left shoulder." (https://www.rome.net/trevi-fountain) (visit site for more pics & info)
While we did get to do some exploring, most of our time was spent relaxing at the hotel and enjoying a break from all the walking and travel fatigue!
At the end of our short time in Rome, we packed our bags up and headed out of the city, and back to the airport. Our flight had a layover in the wondrous Dublin, Ireland. Hours later we boarded a plane back to the states, on a long, nine-hour flight. For the weeks to follow, we basked in the memories of our new adventures and hoped that one day we could have the chance to revisit our previous destinations.
